Have you ever wondered what would happen to your favorite villains, if they had an alternative back story? Instead of simply locking them away, if at their inception, we sought to understand them? If we chose to help them, as opposed to fight them?
What if society didnt deem them to be ‘bad guys’, and said “Hey, we can do more if you’ll let us help you.” Granted, if they chose this path, we wouldn’t be left with the dope comics, movies, and characters we see today. Or, would we?…
As we reflect on these questions, we decided to begin a series called “Did Society Fail Them?”. Here, we deep dive on some of your favorite villains. In an effort to understand them better, we will explore their origins, analyze some scenarios and finally ask that important question: Did society fail them?
We kick things off with Dr. Victor Freis, aka, Mr. Freeze.
His origin story is that of a romantic tragedy.
Listen and enjoy, all the while asking yourself – Did Society Fail Them?

Directed by Andy Muschietti starring James Mcavoy who plays Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stanley Uris, & Bill Skarsgard as the terrorizing clown Pennywise, IT: Chapter Two takes place 27 years after the events of the first film. The Losers group has all grown up, finally putting their old town Derry behind them. Forgetting the events that took place in chapter 1. Everyone for the most part has seem to moved on with their lives, except Michael who decided to stay in town still greatly affected by the trauma he faced years ago by the infamous killer Pennywise, has become obsessed with trying to find a way to kill the psychotic entity for good. After the body counts start to rise again, Michael takes it upon himself to gather the group together for one last showdown so that they can put an end to their crazy nightmare once and for all.
I think I had just as much of a fun experience with this film if not more so than the first one. The stakes are higher this time, & will leave you in shock with just how unapologetically brutal & savage Pennywise is in this new installment. The tone for this film is so much darker, but also mixed with some really great humor especially from Bill Hader who is sure to become a fan favorite amongst audiences, & definitely a huge comedic relief needed for such a dark story as this one.
I’ve seen so many films this year that have been either disappointing, somewhat okay, or a few that barely hit their mark, & was just overall overhyped. But I’m proud to tell you, Andy Muschietti directs one hell of a sequel that earns its place as one of the most satisfying films to come out of 2019. Surpassing even the 1990’s adaptation directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, IT Chapter 2 is a step above from what you’d usually expect to see from a Stephen king adaptation, & will most likely be ranked down the line as a modern classic for the ages. Every single cast member in this movie nails it in their roles, & the chemistry they share with each other on screen is off the charts. You can tell everyone had just as much of a great time behind the scenes when filming. All the performances were genuinely wonderful.
I don’t know what more I can say without giving any plot points away. So I’ll just leave you all with this. IT Chapter 2 is everything you could want in a follow up sequel, & by the time it’s over I can guarantee you, you’ll leave the theater with pure joy in your heart. Truly heartwarming, & a promising start to 2019’s fall season of films. Avoid spoilers at all cost, see it on the biggest screen possible, & remember to just go out & enjoy yourselves. It’s a perfectly well crafted climax to a beautiful story about the meaning, & importance of friendship, family, overcoming your fears, & most of all understanding that despite how hard things may seem at times, you’re never alone as long as you surround yourself with those that love you most. Never lose hope & keep fighting regardless of the obstacles that come your way because not giving up, IS winning. Stephen King should be proud. It chapter 2 is one of the best adaptations of his work in a long time.
Hope you enjoyed my short review. I tried to give a bit a rundown on some of the thoughts I had, without spoiling anything as much as possible. Once you’ve gotten a chance to see it, tweet us or send us a message with your thoughts. We’d love to hear from you. Until next time, peace, & stay safe everyone.
