Takeshi Kovacs is back in Altered Carbon season 2…. we’ve been able to preview some Episodes, and here are our thoughts.
Synopsis: Season Two begins 30 years after the epic conclusion of Season One, and finds Takeshi Kovacs, the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry).
After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs is recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?
Have you ever wondered what would happen to your favorite villains, if they had an alternative back story? Instead of simply locking them away, if at their inception, we sought to understand them? If we chose to help them, as opposed to fight them?
What if society didnt deem them to be ‘bad guys’, and said “Hey, we can do more if you’ll let us help you.” Granted, if they chose this path, we wouldn’t be left with the dope comics, movies, and characters we see today. Or, would we?…
As we reflect on these questions, we decided to begin a series called “Did Society Fail Them?”. Here, we deep dive on some of your favorite villains. In an effort to understand them better, we will explore their origins, analyze some scenarios and finally ask that important question: Did society fail them?
We kick things off with Dr. Victor Freis, aka, Mr. Freeze.
His origin story is that of a romantic tragedy.
Listen and enjoy, all the while asking yourself – Did Society Fail Them?
With the fall season in full swing, I’m beginning to get that feeling again. A certain feeling I haven’t felt since… (inserts Vader quote). Star Wars!. Well, more like Star Wars: The last Jedi.Since the release of the last Jedi, it almost seemed like an eternity since we’ve gotten any new Star Wars content, which made the winter months feel a little empty. Now I say empty because ever since the release of the Force Awakens which was 4 years ago, Disney’s Star Wars has owned the month of December and always had the hype of their new films heavily kick in during early fall. And due to the decision to have Solo: A Star Wars story released in summer, we never really had a major hype drought for Star Wars in such a long time. But now the hype is back and “in greater numbers.” Numbers not only as a reference to one of my favorite fictional characters of all time but literally a reference to all the new and wonderful star wars content we are getting in these next two months. Every major medium from comics, games, TV shows and movies will contain something Star Wars related, which completely amazes me. Never has there been a year that I can think of where we the fans are getting so spoiled with loads of new material.
In just a few days, we will be getting our first live-action TV series “The Mandalorian” on November 12 and three days later we will get the much anticipated Jedi Fallen order game on November 15. As for which I am excited for most, it will be tough to say but I have to go with The Mandalorian on this one. For as long as I could remember, I’ve been wanting and begging to see a live action star wars TV show. Around the year of 2005 when the announcement of a clone wars TV series would be in production I had hoped it would be a live action clone wars series with actors such as Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor reprising their roles as Anakin and Obi-Wan. When George Lucas announced that Lucasfilm will be doing a 3-D animated show that takes place during the clone wars era, I was bummed out at the possibility of never seeing live action star wars again. Could you imagine how cool it would have been to see a clone wars TV show with Jedi knights in the flesh taking on missions at their prime on a weekly bases? It would have put television shows on a scale no one has ever seen before! But as you can see, I had unrealistic expectations since a show like that would have cost way too much to produce and no major company would be willing to support a show like that for a long time. That being said, I actually wasn’t disappointed in the animated show we got, since it was some of the best Star Wars Narratives us fans ever have gotten and gave so much depth and layers to the galaxy we all love. But now the dream of a live action Star Wars show has finally come and we can rejoice it will be a highly budgeted television show similar on the level of Game of Thrones and The Crown.
The other piece of medium that I’m excited to consume is the game Jedi: Fallen Order. Ever since Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise, the Star Wars gaming world has been a bit lackluster for several years especially in the storytelling department. Yes we all know that Battlefront 2 had a campaign, and though it was cool at the time to receive a new narrative, it didn’t fill the void and expectations we as fans expected from a Star Wars game. What battlefront 2 gave us was a safe and quick story along with a looter shooter multiplayer experience that required you to put tons of money for any new content. Us fans deserve so much more and we haven’t had a solid narrative game since Star Wars: The Old Republic, which came out 8 years ago and Star Wars: The force unleashed 2, which came out a year before that. Since then, every single new Star Wars narrative game that was in development has been cancelled and forgotten about- six games to be exact. Jedi: Fallen Order will be the one to break the curse of stand alone narrative Star Wars games and how can it not be? It is only a few weeks away from its release and it has been played with praise from other media outlets this past month. As for my personal opinion on the game, I will wait to see if it will live up to my expectations when I get my hands on the game on November 15.
The last piece of media that will be discussed is the cinema world and how FINALLY, Star Wars is returning to December release dates. No matter how badly the community is split amongst the backlash of The Last Jedi and Solo, I am deeply pumped up for this final installment of the Skywalker saga, so they say. Every trailer that has been released on the rise of skywalker gave me confidence and hope that J.J would unite this shattered fanbase and deliver on the third film in this sequel trilogy. It is only 2 months away and I am loving all the tension speculation surrounding this movie. The long talks with friends, the fan theories, is what I crave the most. The anticipation is here and I hope you guys can feel it too.
So to answer the main question, Is it too much Star Wars in such little time? NEVER. We should all embrace all the new Star Wars content with open arms like a lovely thanksgiving feast. Heck if the MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe) never suffered from content fatigue then Star Wars should be just as fine.
Epilogue: Hello there, my name is Tristen. I am a new writer here at Earth2comiccast and I will be covering all things Star Wars and gaming related. Stay tuned for more content next week, hope you enjoy.
