Is it too much star wars in such little time?

With the fall season in full swing, I’m beginning to get that feeling again. A certain feeling I haven’t felt since… (inserts Vader quote). Star Wars!. Well, more like Star Wars: The last Jedi.Since the release of the last Jedi, it almost seemed like an eternity since we’ve gotten any new Star Wars content, which made the winter months feel a little empty. Now I say empty because ever since the release of the Force Awakens which was 4 years ago, Disney’s Star Wars has owned the month of December and always had the hype of their new films heavily kick in during early fall. And due to the decision to have Solo: A Star Wars story released in summer, we never really had a major hype drought for Star Wars in such a long time. But now the hype is back and “in greater numbers.” Numbers not only as a reference to one of my favorite fictional characters of all time but literally a reference to all the new and wonderful star wars content we are getting in these next two months. Every major medium from  comics, games, TV shows and movies will contain something Star Wars related, which completely amazes me. Never has there been a year that I can think of where we the fans are getting so spoiled with loads of new material.

In just a few days, we will be getting our first live-action TV series “The Mandalorian” on November 12 and three days later we will get the much anticipated Jedi Fallen order game on November 15. As for which I am excited for most, it will be tough to say but I have to go with The Mandalorian on this one. For as long as I could remember, I’ve been wanting and begging to see a live action star wars TV show. Around the year of 2005 when the announcement of a clone wars TV series would be in production I had hoped it would be a live action clone wars series with actors such as Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor reprising their roles as Anakin and Obi-Wan. When George Lucas announced that Lucasfilm will be doing a 3-D animated show that takes place during the clone wars era, I was bummed out at the possibility of never seeing live action star wars again. Could you imagine how cool it would have been to see a clone wars TV show with Jedi knights in the flesh taking on missions at their prime on a weekly bases? It would have put television shows on a scale no one has ever seen before! But as you can see, I had unrealistic expectations since a show like that would have cost way too much to produce and no major company would be willing to support a show like that for a long time. That being said, I actually wasn’t disappointed in the animated show we got, since it was some of the best Star Wars Narratives us fans ever have gotten and gave so much depth and layers to the galaxy we all love. But now the dream of a live action Star Wars show has finally come and we can rejoice it will be a highly budgeted television show similar on the level of Game of Thrones and The Crown.

The other piece of medium that I’m excited to consume is the game Jedi: Fallen Order. Ever since Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise, the Star Wars gaming world has been a bit lackluster for several years especially in the storytelling department. Yes we all know that Battlefront 2 had a campaign, and though it was cool at the time to receive a new narrative, it didn’t fill the void and expectations we as fans expected from a Star Wars game. What battlefront 2 gave us was a safe and quick story along with a looter shooter multiplayer experience that required you to put tons of money for any new content. Us fans deserve so much more and we haven’t had a solid narrative game since Star Wars: The Old Republic, which came out 8 years ago and Star Wars: The force unleashed 2, which came out a year before that. Since then, every single new Star Wars narrative game that was in development has been cancelled and forgotten about- six games to be exact. Jedi: Fallen Order will be the one to break the curse of stand alone narrative Star Wars games and how can it not be? It is only a few weeks away from its release and it has been played with praise from other media outlets this past month. As for my personal opinion on the game, I will wait to see if it will live up to my expectations when I get my hands on the game on November 15.

The last piece of media that will be discussed is the cinema world and how FINALLY, Star Wars is returning to December release dates.  No matter how badly the community is split amongst the backlash of The Last Jedi and Solo, I am deeply pumped up for this final installment of the Skywalker saga, so they say. Every trailer that has been released on the rise of skywalker gave me confidence and hope that J.J would unite this shattered fanbase and deliver on the third film in this sequel trilogy. It is only 2 months away and I am loving all the tension speculation surrounding this movie. The long talks with friends, the fan theories, is what I crave the most. The anticipation is here and I hope you guys can feel it too.

So to answer the main question, Is it too much Star Wars in such little time? NEVER. We should all embrace all the new Star Wars content with open arms like a lovely thanksgiving feast. Heck if the MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe) never suffered from content fatigue then Star Wars should be just as fine.

Epilogue: Hello there, my name is Tristen. I am a new writer here at Earth2comiccast and I will be covering all things Star Wars and gaming related. Stay tuned for more content next week, hope you enjoy.

Why The Witcher Should Be On Your List Of MUST-SEE Shows For 2019

Day 2 of Comic Con was nothing short of amazing & filled with loads of surprises! One of the biggest being Netflix’s most anticipated Fantasy Drama Series The Witcher! Based on the widely popular & beloved novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The premise goes as follows:
“Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”

Details about the show was finally revealed to us on Friday during a Hall H Panel hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown & fans were met by three of the main leads Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, & Anya Chalotra along with executive producer, & showrunner Lauren Hissrich who’s best known for her work on previous critically praised shows such as: Daredevil, The Defenders, Power, Parenthood, & the most recently released Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. So I think it’s safe to say The Witcher is in pretty good hands from the looks of it.

Henry Cavill being a massive fan of both the games & the books explained very early on that not only was he the first to approach Hissrich about the role of Geralt but that it was a dream come true for him once he got word back that he indeed got the gig!

Entertainment Weekly was lucky enough to do a brief interview with the cast of the epic series where Cavill finally shared his thoughts on what the role Geralt meant to him, why the world of the Witcher is vastly different from so many folklores we’ve seen before, & what makes it so relevant to our current society today:

Hissrich met with over 200 other actors before finally deciding on Cavill as her lead & knew right away from his first audition that he was the perfect choice mainly due to his passion & genuine love for the franchise.

Lauren Hissrich on the process that went into casting Henry Cavill:

Freya Allan who many may know as young Minerva on AMC’s Martial Arts Drama Series Into The Badlands, will be playing Princess Ciri.

the-witcher-freya-allan-2-600x278

Details on her character have been for the most part kept under wraps, but Lauren Hissrich was willing to share some words on how she went about casting Ms. Allan for the role:

Words from Lauren Hissrich on Freya Allan with Entertainment Weekly:

Anya Chalotra who’s also a new upcomer in the spotlight will be playing the role of the powerful sorceress Yennefer, & was able to share some minor details revolving her character & the mindset she’s in when we’re first introduced to her on screen:

Netflix_TheWitcher_IG_GRID_Phase001_1080X1080_PRE_09

One of the writers of the show Beau DeMayo had this to say about Anya Chalotra’s casting:

Fellow cast member Therica Wilson Read also had some very kind words to share about her co-star Anya’s performance:

Given the controversy that surrounded Chalotra when she was first bought on to the project in September of 2018, it’s good to see the well deserved praise she’s receiving and I for one can not wait to see her in action & prove all the trolls wrong once the series finally drops online!

WHAT MAKES THE WITCHER SUCH A COMPELLING STORY FOR EVERYONE:

The Witcher has already been described by showrunner Hissrich herself to be a very adult show, & will not hesitant at any expense to go as dark in tone as necessary in order to do the novels justice. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly she says:

the-witcher-freya-allan-600x273

If you’re wondering why this series is so unique compared to other fantasy shows that have come before it, Hissrich had this to share:

The last bit of exciting news to come out of the panel, was that we finally got our very first look at the official teaser trailer released online worldwide from Netflix! And I’ll just say…. WOW! Anyone that may have had doubt before, will be turned completely around after seeing this. It is Glorious!! The budget behind this series is no joke. From the set pieces, to the costume designs, it is in every way a visual spectacle, & looks to be something truly extraordinary.

Lots of people have been wondering if this show will be the answer to HBO’s Game Of Thrones. It’s a bit of both. In terms of scope sure, but Lauren Hissrich has been very vocal in saying:

To be honest, she’s right. The Witcher doesn’t NEED to be the next Game Of Thrones, because we’ve already gone through that ringer before. The whole reason why so many of us choose to invest ourselves into these fascinating fictional worlds whether it be through books, television, film or all of the above is because we’re given new original heartfelt stories from so many different writers across the globe that aren’t made to be in competition with another but instead just broaden our love for the fantasy genre even more. That’s all any of us can ask for at the of the day.

No release date has been announced yet, but its already been confirmed that the show will be premiering sometime around late fall of 2019. So it shouldn’t be too long before we hear something soon.

Overall I have to say, I’m very impressed by everything I’ve seen. I don’t think this will be a disappointment by any means, & I’m sure it’ll be another massive hit for Netflix! Be Ready!

Cinemax’s Warrior: One Of The Best New Shows Of 2019!

Produced by daughter of the late Bruce Lee, Shannon Lee along with Justin Lin, & Jonathan Tropper comes a brand-new Marital arts drama series from Cinemax that has been 50 years in the making from the early works of the legendary Bruce Lee himself titled “Warrior” set in the late 1870s of San Francisco, California which follows a young man by the name of Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy who’s on the search for his long lost sister in hopes of bringing her home, & is later sold to one of the most powerful tongs in Chinatown.

preview-warrior-justin-lin-shannon-lee-jonathan-tropper-600x412

Filled with an Awe-inspiring Cast starring Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Diane Doan, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Joanna Vanderham, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Joe Taslim, Perry Yung, & Langely Kirkwood comes a story that reflects heavily on the hardships and reality of racism, discrimination, & sexism set in a fictional world that very closely mirrors our current society.

Let me just start off by stating it’s rare when we see a television series like this that is so committed to giving viewers across the world a show that is willing to speak so truthfully on the many struggles people of color have & continue to endure today. Warrior is not only throughly entertaining, but also is distinct on the messages it is able to tell through its dialogue & the characters we grow to love throughout the series.

SETTING:
tumblr_pjq31pMuAq1uhbcvmo1_500

We see a world where racism is displayed at an all time high with Asians being called cruel/hateful names such as “Chink” & “Chinaman” along with political leaders of all kinds abusing their power & deeming those of color less than human by either having them arrested on false charges, not giving them fair trials or going as far as committing random attacks as a way of pushing them out of the country.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Good because it should. Those same exact events you see on this show are happening in our world right now to so many of us, & unfortunately hasn’t gotten any better. That’s what makes this story so powerful. It’s not solely focused on just giving you cool entertaining fights which by the way are amazing, but instead uses its time to get you emotionally attached to characters that reflect real people suffering battles similar to our own. Really showing the difficulty of what it means to be looked down upon & judged wrongfully for no other reason but your ethnic background or your skin color.

CHARACTERS:

Warrior

Ah Sahm who’s our protagonist played by Andrew Koji quickly gets himself involved with the Hop Wei Tong, & is later put at odds with their life long rival gang the Long Zii. Finding enemies from every corner & few allies he can trust, we see our hero Ah Sham grow into a force to be reckoned with that is hellbent on protecting his new found family and will stop at nothing to ensure the safety of his sister. I don’t think Shannon Lee could have found a better lead for this show. Andrew Koji is not just a terrific actor, but also brings a cool edgy type of energy to the character of Ah Sahm, & fully embodies the role of man who can be naive & cocky at times but most of all is determined on trying to do some good in his life & the people around him, & refuses to be broken down or belittled by a city that’s in fear of itself. Wonderful lead!

Warrior11-1024x576

Mai Ling played by the gorgeous & most talented Dianne Doan who’s original name goes by Xiaojing, is the younger sister of Ah Sahm, & one of the many powerful women we see showcased throughout the course of this show. After suffering years of abuse by her husband who she was forced to marry as a way of preventing the death of her younger brother, Mai Ling runs away from China to San Francisco & later becomes leader of the Long Zii Tong alongside her lover, enforcer & partner Li Yong.

Right from her first appearance Dianne Doan became an instant fan favorite of mine, & does an incredible job of portraying a woman who refuses to stay a victim to her past abuse and instead rises as a powerful warlord in her own right to help ensure others in Chinatown will no longer have to endure the same fate she suffered during her childhood. She has an enormous amount of strength about her that is infectious, & despite some of the cold actions she’s forced to unfortunately make at times, is able to cause viewers to fall completely in love with her, & want nothing but to see an outcome of her standing victorious by the end. People will be amazed by the wonderful performance Dianne Doan brings to the screen. You won’t be able to take your eyes off her, & will be left in shock with how much of a badass she becomes by the end of the first season. I’m telling y’all, she’s fantastic!!

6f179a75-96d4-458b-83c4-644e33ba4ee1_169

Li Yong played by the none other Joe Taslim who many may already know from the widely beloved film The Raid: Redemption directed by Gareth Evans, & the most recently critically praised film featured on Netflix right now The Night Comes For Us directed by Tim Tijahanto, is not only a pleasant surprise to see for everyone including myself, but also if you’re looking to create a show that is centrally focused on displaying true martial arts at its finest, then this is the man you’d want on a project like this. It’s just common sense, & it’d  almost be a crime not to have him involved in it. Very pleased he’s back to remind us all how much of a great fighter & actor he really is, & I think it was an excellent decision on Cinemax & the producers part bringing him on to this series.

1-npeOJl-B7RhuwyaulBAfxA

Big Bill O’Hara & Richard Lee played by Kieran Bew & Weston-Jones are two police officers investigating the mysterious deaths committed in Chinatown by an unknown assailant. O’Hara who’s unfortunately caught in debt with the Irish men gang is met with some unlikely tasks that threatens the livelihood of his own family, & is pushed into becoming someone unrecognizable to himself & his peers as a means of protecting his loved ones.

While Richard Lee who we discover much later on has been targeted with a bounty on his head for committing murder & is now on the run for his life. Both work together on protecting the others interests, & during their investigation come across a completely new world existing in Chinatown when they get entangled in the ongoing war of the Tongs.

Lee & O’Hara help represent the only few good officers left in San Francisco who genuinely want to help its people & put an end to a conflict that can unfortunately result in the deaths of many. Kieran Bew & Weston Jones bring almost a Bony & Clyde vibe to the show that at times can be made for comedic relief, but most importantly display a deep brotherly bond of two men dealing with their own inner demons, & helps one another discover a more stronger version of themselves they didn’t know existed before. They at times can be the heart of the show set in a place that has left many oppressed longing for a glimmer of hope that things will turn out okay.

Ah Toy played by the beautiful Olivia Cheng is a Madame in charge of the Hop Wei Brothel, & stops at nothing to ensure the safety & protection of her own people from any and all kinds of threats surrounding Chinatown. Even if that means taking a life in the process. Intelligent, fearless, wise, & one of the few friends Ah Sahm has in San Francisco, & takes an interest in him after discovering his family connection to Mai Ling. Olivia Cheng not only steals every scene she’s in, but also is a downright thrill to watch, & most importantly one of the most stunning, & empowering women you’ll ever see on television right now. She does a fascinating job bringing such a great character in Ah Toy to life, & is one of the main reasons why this show is so damn incredible! She’s been involved with two other popular series as well titled Marco Polo & Deadly Class, which by the way she was also great in as well. Very ecstatic with everything she’s done so far, & can’t wait to see more of her in future seasons on this show.

Hoon-Lee-Warrior-Cinemax

Wang Chao played by Hoon Lee is a black market arms dealer that works both sides of the Hop Wei & Long Zii, & also with the San Francisco police. Supposedly an ally to everyone, but really a lone wolf with his own secrets, & probably one of the smartest people that resides in Chinatown. Many may already know Wang Chao from a previous beloved show on Cinemax called Banshee which ran for 4 seasons & ended its run in may 2016. So you can understand why so many fans were excited to see him make a return once again alongside Jonathan Tropper who I mentioned before as one of the producers on this show, & also worked as showrunner for Banshee. Hoon Lee brings a cool swagger to the character of Wang Chao that sets him apart from the rest, & plays as a huge asset to an already incredibly talented crew.

MV5BZDNkMjE4OGItMmU2Mi00YjQ4LTkwZTItNjcyN2EwODE2MTcyXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyOTg2ODEyNTQ@._V1_

Joanna Vanderham plays Penelope Blake the wife of Mayor Samuel Blake whom she marries as a way of preventing her father’s business from going bankrupt. When we first meet Penelope, she’s already fighting a war of her own. Set at a time where women are almost forbidden to have a voice in almost anything, Penelope chooses to stand up against those that abuse their power, & begins to act as one of the first on breaking those barriers, while also slowly finding her own strength refusing to be silent against the visible racism currently going on within the city, & along the way grows a quick affection for our hero Ah Sahm who saves her from being mugged by a group of men working for the Hop Wei. Vanderham is so compassionate & empathetic in her portrayal. A remarkable actress that will immediately take your breath away, & is able to express a deep level of genuine & raw emotion on screen.  Especially in scenes that require little to no dialogue. A joy to watch, & a great addition to the cast!

Other Additional Cast Members Include:

warrior-dean-jagger

Dean Jagger plays Dylan Leary an American Civil War Veteran turned Crime Lord who holds a strong hate for the Chinese and firmly believes they’re the sole cause for jobs being taken away from the Irish. Dylan is a psychotic man feared by many around town who is committed on doing whatever it takes to drive out the Chinese from San Francisco, & will go as far as even taking another one’s life to ensure those goals are met. As sicking as this character may be, I gotta give it up to Dean Jagger for not being afraid on giving the audience one hell of a performance that reflects the acts & behavior of many people in our country that unfortunately shares the same hate. It’s not watered down in any way, & visibly shows just how cruel the world we live in really is.

1-eQQ5QObu4ugLwJ-FTwYN-w

Jason Tobin & Perry Yung who play Father Jun & Young Jun. Both run the Hop Wei Tong, &  quickly decides to take in Ah Sahm in the beginning of the series as one of their own. Young Jun is son of Father Jun, & awaits the day of taking over the Hop Wei in honor of his father. Ah Sahm’s closest & most dearest friend in San Francisco, & has his back through thick & thin no matter the situation.  The two are basically blood brothers that will kill for each other if absolutely necessary, & do what they must out of respect for Father Jun & the Hop Wei. Father Jun is a much more lethal, & focused man with a single goal in mind which is keeping sole control of the streets with his Tong at the top. All seeing & all knowing. A powerful crime boss that always honors his word, & doesn’t believe in second chances. Someone who’s not easily fooled, & has grown tired & weiry of the ridicule Chinatown is forced to deal with causing him to make cold/calculated decisions in the betterment of his people. He sees potential in Ah Sahm & grooms him into one his most trusted enforcers.

A+ Choreography:
Warrior

The action set pieces that take place are outstanding, & are some of the best I’ve seen since AMC’s Into The Badlands! Which is another show also centered around martial arts, & I highly recommend you all give that a look at too whenever you get the chance. The fights done on Warrior are grounded, gritty, brutal at times & intense, & doesn’t once slow down at all. It’s so well done, & beautifully shot, and if you’re someone who maybe even remotely interested in wanting to tune in, then the choreography alone should be more than enough to grab your attention. Trust me when I say, some of the fight scenes are just jaw dropping, & is once again a testament to how devoted everyone in this cast is to giving fans something that not only pays respect to the show itself, but also gives viewers everywhere a reason to start shouting out in praise with full adrenaline & pure excitement. It’s a rush you’ll love watching from start to finish.

If you’re someone who’s feeling a bit of an empty void now that Game Of Thrones is gone or just looking for a story that is not generic & is different from what you may have seen before, then I’d highly advise you take a look at this phenomenal series. Lots of hard work went into it, & it pays off tremendously. Believe me, you will not be disappointed. You have my word.. Season 1 is now available on the Cinemax app, & the show has now been renewed for a season 2. The more people that watch the better chances we have of it staying on air even longer. Which by the way is something I promise many of will be asking for by the time you fully become invested yourself. So keep showing your support, & if you haven’t seen it yet, hopefully I was able to convince you to start. Thanks for reading, & send us a message to either me or to our Twitter & Facebook pages @earth2comiccast or @Tweet_JvS. Be safe out there & enjoy the rest of your day. Peace!
