IT CHAPTER 2 SPOILER FREE REVIEW: A SATISFYING CONCLUSION TO ONE OF STEPHEN KING’S BEST WORK IN A LONG TIME

Directed by Andy Muschietti starring James Mcavoy who plays Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stanley Uris, & Bill Skarsgard as the terrorizing clown Pennywise, IT: Chapter Two takes place 27 years after the events of the first film. The Losers group has all grown up, finally putting their old town Derry behind them. Forgetting the events that took place in chapter 1. Everyone for the most part has seem to moved on with their lives, except Michael who decided to stay in town still greatly affected by the trauma he faced years ago by the infamous killer Pennywise, has become obsessed with trying to find a way to kill the psychotic entity for good. After the body counts start to rise again, Michael takes it upon himself to gather the group together for one last showdown so that they can put an end to their crazy nightmare once and for all.

It-Chapter-Two-featurette

I think I had just as much of a fun experience with this film if not more so than the first one. The stakes are higher this time, & will leave you in shock with just how unapologetically brutal & savage Pennywise is in this new installment.  The tone for this film is so much darker, but also mixed with some really great humor especially from Bill Hader who is sure to become a fan favorite amongst audiences, & definitely a huge comedic relief needed for such a dark story as this one.

I’ve seen so many films this year that have been either disappointing, somewhat okay, or a few that barely hit their mark, & was just overall overhyped. But I’m proud to tell you, Andy Muschietti directs one hell of a sequel that earns its place as one of the most satisfying films to come out of 2019. Surpassing even the 1990’s adaptation directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, IT Chapter 2 is a step above from what you’d usually expect to see from a Stephen king adaptation, & will most likely be ranked down the line as a modern classic for the ages. Every single cast member in this movie nails it in their roles, & the chemistry they share with each other on screen is off the charts. You can tell everyone had just as much of a great time behind the scenes when filming. All the performances were genuinely wonderful.

it-chapter-two-cast

I don’t know what more I can say without giving any plot points away. So I’ll just leave you all with this. IT Chapter 2 is everything you could want in a follow up sequel, & by the time it’s over I can guarantee you, you’ll leave the theater with pure joy in your heart. Truly heartwarming, & a promising start to 2019’s fall season of films. Avoid spoilers at all cost, see it on the biggest screen possible, & remember to just go out & enjoy yourselves. It’s a perfectly well crafted climax to a beautiful story about the meaning, & importance of friendship, family, overcoming your fears, & most of all understanding that despite how hard things may seem at times, you’re never alone as long as you surround yourself with those that love you most. Never lose hope & keep fighting regardless of the obstacles that come your way because not giving up, IS winning. Stephen King should be proud. It chapter 2 is one of the best adaptations of his work in a long time.

Hope you enjoyed my short review. I tried to give a bit a rundown on some of the thoughts I had, without spoiling anything as much as possible. Once you’ve gotten a chance to see it, tweet us or send us a message with your thoughts. We’d love to hear from you. Until next time, peace, & stay safe everyone.

Why The Witcher Should Be On Your List Of MUST-SEE Shows For 2019

Day 2 of Comic Con was nothing short of amazing & filled with loads of surprises! One of the biggest being Netflix’s most anticipated Fantasy Drama Series The Witcher! Based on the widely popular & beloved novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The premise goes as follows:
“Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”

Details about the show was finally revealed to us on Friday during a Hall H Panel hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown & fans were met by three of the main leads Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, & Anya Chalotra along with executive producer, & showrunner Lauren Hissrich who’s best known for her work on previous critically praised shows such as: Daredevil, The Defenders, Power, Parenthood, & the most recently released Netflix series The Umbrella Academy. So I think it’s safe to say The Witcher is in pretty good hands from the looks of it.

Henry Cavill being a massive fan of both the games & the books explained very early on that not only was he the first to approach Hissrich about the role of Geralt but that it was a dream come true for him once he got word back that he indeed got the gig!

Entertainment Weekly was lucky enough to do a brief interview with the cast of the epic series where Cavill finally shared his thoughts on what the role Geralt meant to him, why the world of the Witcher is vastly different from so many folklores we’ve seen before, & what makes it so relevant to our current society today:

Hissrich met with over 200 other actors before finally deciding on Cavill as her lead & knew right away from his first audition that he was the perfect choice mainly due to his passion & genuine love for the franchise.

Lauren Hissrich on the process that went into casting Henry Cavill:

Freya Allan who many may know as young Minerva on AMC’s Martial Arts Drama Series Into The Badlands, will be playing Princess Ciri.

Details on her character have been for the most part kept under wraps, but Lauren Hissrich was willing to share some words on how she went about casting Ms. Allan for the role:

Words from Lauren Hissrich on Freya Allan with Entertainment Weekly:

Anya Chalotra who’s also a new upcomer in the spotlight will be playing the role of the powerful sorceress Yennefer, & was able to share some minor details revolving her character & the mindset she’s in when we’re first introduced to her on screen:

Netflix_TheWitcher_IG_GRID_Phase001_1080X1080_PRE_09

One of the writers of the show Beau DeMayo had this to say about Anya Chalotra’s casting:

Fellow cast member Therica Wilson Read also had some very kind words to share about her co-star Anya’s performance:

Given the controversy that surrounded Chalotra when she was first bought on to the project in September of 2018, it’s good to see the well deserved praise she’s receiving and I for one can not wait to see her in action & prove all the trolls wrong once the series finally drops online!

WHAT MAKES THE WITCHER SUCH A COMPELLING STORY FOR EVERYONE:

The Witcher has already been described by showrunner Hissrich herself to be a very adult show, & will not hesitant at any expense to go as dark in tone as necessary in order to do the novels justice. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly she says:

the-witcher-freya-allan-600x273

If you’re wondering why this series is so unique compared to other fantasy shows that have come before it, Hissrich had this to share:

The last bit of exciting news to come out of the panel, was that we finally got our very first look at the official teaser trailer released online worldwide from Netflix! And I’ll just say…. WOW! Anyone that may have had doubt before, will be turned completely around after seeing this. It is Glorious!! The budget behind this series is no joke. From the set pieces, to the costume designs, it is in every way a visual spectacle, & looks to be something truly extraordinary.

Lots of people have been wondering if this show will be the answer to HBO’s Game Of Thrones. It’s a bit of both. In terms of scope sure, but Lauren Hissrich has been very vocal in saying:

To be honest, she’s right. The Witcher doesn’t NEED to be the next Game Of Thrones, because we’ve already gone through that ringer before. The whole reason why so many of us choose to invest ourselves into these fascinating fictional worlds whether it be through books, television, film or all of the above is because we’re given new original heartfelt stories from so many different writers across the globe that aren’t made to be in competition with another but instead just broaden our love for the fantasy genre even more. That’s all any of us can ask for at the of the day.

No release date has been announced yet, but its already been confirmed that the show will be premiering sometime around late fall of 2019. So it shouldn’t be too long before we hear something soon.

Overall I have to say, I’m very impressed by everything I’ve seen. I don’t think this will be a disappointment by any means, & I’m sure it’ll be another massive hit for Netflix! Be Ready!

Midsommar Spoiler-Free Review: Florence Pugh Gives One Of The Best Performances Of The Year!

Midsommar is a indie folk horror film directed by Ari Aster best known for his most recent work in 2018’s most talked about & critically acclaimed horror films Hereditary which was not only met with praise across the board by everyone, but has been called one of the best modern age horror films of the decade. Midsommar has already begun to see a similar amount of praise by audiences everywhere as once again one of the best films to come out of 2019, & some of the best work of Ari Aster’s career. So you can imagine the expectations fans had going into this one.

MIDSOMMAR

The story centers around 5 friends who are invited to a midsummer Festival in a remote undisclosed village taking place in Sweden. Dani played by Florence Pugh who’s parents & sister passes away in an unspeakable tragedy is barely able to cope with the loss & is left in mourning while also doing her best to keep the last remaining relationship she has left alive with her boyfriend Jack played by Jack Reynor.

Jack feeling immense pressure from his friends William played by William Jackson Harper, Pelle played Vihelm Blomgren, & Mark played by Wil Poulter, while also now having to be Dani’s one & only anchor left, is having a hard time deciding on whether to end or continue his relationship with Dani, & chooses to go on a road trip to take his mind off from all the stress alongside his friends & girlfriend to visit Pelle’s family in Sweden for a much needed vacation.

midsommar

Once the gang gets there, they’re met by a group of strange & mysterious villagers who very early on in the film give off the vibe of a sinister ploy at work, eventually putting the lives of Jack & his friends in danger.

I’ll choose to stop there, so I don’t end up spoiling the film for anyone that hasn’t gotten the chance to see it yet.

My Thoughts:

DSCF8772.RAF

It’s a slow burn that takes its time to unravel the mystery surrounding Pelle’s family & why their festival only takes place every 90 years. The film does a great job of keeping you unsettled all the way through but also completely invested in a story that is not initially what you’ll expect to see in a horror movie. It’s got a few great comedic moments to it that helps lighten up the ominous tone this film sets off, as well as a strong & all around likable cast that audiences will quickly grow to love very early on within the story. I left the theater in shock & bit confused from how it ended, but for the most part appreciated the unique approach Ari Aster took with this film.

I know I may get some heat for this, but I wasn’t as fond of this movie like everyone else. I don’t hate it, but I’m not entirely in love with it either. It was okay for me. It’s got some great scary moments that will for sure not only have you on edge, but also causes you to put into thought of just how real a situation like the one Jack & his friends were in can actually be. This film in no way feels generic & is definitely unlike anything people have seen before within the horror genre. Which is probably the main reason people enjoy Ari Aster’s work so much. He does his best to deliver something different than what we’re all used to, & doesn’t just try to be shocking for the sake of it, but instead is able to tell a solid enough story with well written characters that will leave you talking for days on end long after the film is over.

Breakout Star – Florence Pugh:

midsommar8.0

The strongest standout for me has gotta be without a doubt Florence Pugh. Don’t get me wrong the rest of the cast was great too, but I thought Florence Pugh easily gave the strongest performance not only in this movie, but probably one of the best performances I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this year. Out of all the movies to come out of 2019 so far, Florence Pugh managed to grab my attention the most, & just carries this entire film on her own.

She’s unquestionably fantastic the entire way through, & literally steals  every scene she’s in. This might be too early to say, but I really hope the academy nominates her for the 2019’s Oscars. The chances may be low due to the upcoming competition of films coming this fall, but I believe she deserves to be acknowledged for how great of an actress she truly is. It’s not a joke. She’s THAT good! I may not have liked Midsommar as much as others, but I’d see it again in a heartbeat just for Ms. Pugh. Easily.

Florence Pugh’s Next Upcoming Project – Black Widow Set For a 2020 Release:
pugh

Her next film will see her starring alongside Scarlett Johansen in the long awaited & highly most anticipated Marvel solo film Black Widow. Her role & the plot are as of right now are unknown, but it has been heavily rumored that Florence Pugh will be playing the character Yelena Belova who many fans may already know as the second woman to don the mantle of Black Widow in the comics, & is trained by the same people who trained Natasha Romanoff to act as her successor. That is some really exciting news in itself, & I can not wait to go see this when it comes out. Marvel is already on a high coming off strong with both Avengers: Endgame and Spiderman: Far From Home. So it’s no surprise that Disney would take the opportunity to bring on even more amazing talent for future projects they have planned for the foreseeable future of their overall beloved cinematic universe headed by Kevin Feige. Disney & Marvel Studios couldn’t have gotten a better actress than Florence Pugh for a film like this. Really excited to see what she can do, & where her career goes from here, & I think we’ll all be seeing a lot more her in much bigger roles very soon. I’m sure of it.

Final Thoughts:
So I gotta say, even though this movie didn’t hit all the marks for me, I appreciate the different take Ari Aster bought to Midsommar, & I believe anyone who’s a fan of Hereditary will probably have a great time watching this. Even if you’re someone who may not have seen herditary at all beforehand (like myself) & are going in with fresh eyes, I’d say give it a go. It might surprise you, & you may end up loving the heck out of it by the end. Always judge a film based on your own opinions and not the opinions of others.

That’s the end of my review. Hopefully you all enjoyed it. Go see Midsommar this week, & see where it lands for you. If you want to reach us, send us your thoughts to our pages on @Earth2ComicCast & @Tweet_JVS. Enjoy your day everyone, & stay safe out there. Peace!
